Linen backing is the industry standard of conservation. Canvas is stretchered and a sheet of acid free barrier paper is laid down. The poster is then pasted to the acid free paper using an acid free paste. This process is fully reversible and gives support to the poster. A border of linen is left around the poster and can be used by a framer to mount the poster so that nothing touches the poster itself.
The price of this poster includes linen backing.
"Hazádnak rendületlenül!" from the Hungarian patriotic song Szózat, translating to "To your country, unswervingly!"
VERY rare early poster promoting Hungarian independence and strength in the early days of WWI. A towering soldier with a giant sword stands in front of a stained glass window with the Virgin Mary (Our Lady of Hungary) and the infant Jesus Christ both with glowing halos.
In Hungarian tradition, the Virgin Mary is regarded as the Patrona Hungariae (the patroness and protector of the country). She is depicted leaning over the central soldier and placing her hand on his shoulder in a gesture of divine blessing and protection, emphasizing that the soldier's defense of the country is a holy and noble duty. Beside her, the young Jesus Christ arm outstretched, mirroring a gesture of blessing, guiding the defender forward.
