Elephants in Udaipur were historically owned and maintained by the Maharanas of Mewar (the royal family of Udaipur). These royal elephants were used for state processions, weddings, and ceremonial elephant fights in the City Palace, particularly during the reigns of Maharana Fateh Singh, Maharana Raj Singh I, and Maharaj Kumar Bhagwat Singh.
