This poster is currently unbacked. At check out, you will be given the opportunity to add backing which would cost $80 and take approximately 6-8 weeks.
Linen backing is the industry standard of conservation. Canvas is stretchered and a sheet of acid free barrier paper is laid down. The poster is then pasted to the acid free paper using an acid free paste. This process is fully reversible and gives support to the poster. A border of linen is left around the poster and can be used by a framer to mount the poster so that nothing touches the poster itself. Backing is what we recommend for framing, and for any poster needing restoration.
"Die neuen Männer" ("The New Men"), published in October 1918 by the Bedazet-Buchverlag in Berlin. It depicts the newly formed imperial government cabinet of Prince Max von Baden during the final weeks of the German Empire in World War I.
Top row: Dr. Wilhelm Solf - Prinz Max von Baden - Matthias Erzberger
Middle Row: Siegfried Graf von Roedern - Otto Fischbeck - Gustav Bauer - Philipp Scheidemann
Bottom Row: Ernst Ritter von Mann - Heinrich Scheuch - Dr. Adolf Gröber - Dr. Karl Trimborn
Formed on October 3, 1918, this was the first cabinet in Imperial German history to include members of the major parliamentary parties—including the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Center Party—marking a shift toward the "parliamentarization" of the German government under pressure from military defeat and the Allied armistice demands. Prince Max von Baden would serve as Chancellor for just over a month before announcing the abdication of Kaiser Wilhelm II and the end of the monarchy on November 9, 1918
