Linen backing is the industry standard of conservation. Canvas is stretchered and a sheet of acid free barrier paper is laid down. The poster is then pasted to the acid free paper using an acid free paste. This process is fully reversible and gives support to the poster. A border of linen is left around the poster and can be used by a framer to mount the poster so that nothing touches the poster itself. Backing is what we recommend for framing, and for any poster needing restoration.

Rare Federal Art Project (FAP) poster by Joseph Binder, winning a prize in a Fortune magazine poster competition.
FAP posters were generally created to promote events of local interest. Print runs were small and almost always no larger than 14 x 22 inches. The designers were of varying skills, from excellent to rather unskilled and in neither case qualifying for more salary than the government minimum.
National campaigns, such as Buy American Art Week allowed for a substantially larger poster, by a renowned designer, and intended for a national campaign and distribution. As such, this poster may have been printed in several locations, this example is stamped "Made by the WPA Oklahoma Art Project"
On the back is an original sketch by WPA artist Ruth Monro Augur.
