When You Fire Remember This, Enlist in the Navy- WWI Recruiting Poster

  • 1917
  • W.A. Rogers
  • 12 x 16 1/2 inches ~ (30 x 40 cm)
    $1,650
  • Unbacked

This poster is currently unbacked. At check out, you will be given the opportunity to add backing which would cost $80 and take approximately 6-8 weeks.

Linen backing is the industry standard of conservation. Canvas is stretchered and a sheet of acid free barrier paper is laid down. The poster is then pasted to the acid free paper using an acid free paste. This process is fully reversible and gives support to the poster. A border of linen is left around the poster and can be used by a framer to mount the poster so that nothing touches the poster itself. Backing is what we recommend for framing, and for any poster needing restoration.

  • Very rare WWI poster showing the sinking of the Lusitania, one of the major events leading to the entry of the United States into WWI. The extreme graphic of a child being rescued by a sailor from a sinking Lusitania Life Boat was used to promote alleged barbaric German military actions.

The Lusitania a British-registered ocean liner was torpedoed by an Imperial German Navy U-boat on May 7, 1915.

Double sided poster, with reverse side describing the virtues of enlisting including the admonition that “no woman likes a slacker”.

    Please note losses to corners.
