  • Showing the Petersen House, a federal style row house built in 1849, which was located directly across the street from Ford’s Theater in Washington DC.

President Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865. Mortally wounded , Lincoln was carried across the street to the Petersen House where he would linger until dying at 7:22am on April 15. From that day forward, the Petersen House would be remembered as the “House Where Lincoln Died”, and along with Ford’s Theater would be designated National Historic Sites in 1932, open to the public and administered by the National Park Service.

Interestingly the 2 triangles logo shown on the poster was only used by the Park Service from 1966 to 1969.
