Linen backing is the industry standard of conservation. Canvas is stretchered and a sheet of acid free barrier paper is laid down. The poster is then pasted to the acid free paper using an acid free paste. This process is fully reversible and gives support to the poster. A border of linen is left around the poster and can be used by a framer to mount the poster so that nothing touches the poster itself. Backing is what we recommend for framing, and for any poster needing restoration.

Interesting design by Robert Rauschenberg of the Los Angeles Olympics logo.
Rauschenberg cut through his work surface and fused and taped contemporary popular images to the underside. Many of the images are representative of trends in modern movement such as skateboarding, basketball, boxing, soccer, cycling, boating, jump roping, and running. These are interspersed with industrial images of urban settings, traffic, and technological advancements such as medical imaging, and more natural elements such as fruit, vegetables, flowers, and animals.
This poster is in the National Museum of American History's collection.
Held from July 28th-August 12th, it was the second time Los Angeles had hosted the games, and the first for over 50 years. The games are regarded as one of the most successful of all time, with the USA winning overall and the events turning over $250m in profit. The Olympic Committee of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics commissioned 15 artists to create posters for the event, including David Hockney, Robert Rauschenberg, Jennifer Bartlett, John Baldessari, and Roy Lichtenstein.
