"We are tired of war: of laos, of vietnam, of God know where else, of missiles, of men in armies--of nations of armies, of the deaths of all who are innocent of the knowledge that we all are brothers, and those who are their victims at home and abroad. We are tired of greed (mother of war): and its monuments all around us, trapping the rich--starving the poor--and sometimes, chocking us in our own blind habits of consumption. We are tired of cheap judgments, cheap promises, cheap politics: of law and order which values property over life. We are hungering for peace: violence only escalates and complicates. We need strength: and chose to find it within ourselves, and our fasting (eating no food for a day, days, or weeks, or existing on a welfare budget) and chose to find others for whom our surpluses can mean survival, strength. We need a vision of a sharing, creating, life-serving society: without material values of skin color, cold cash; without imaginary values of status and power. We need tactics, non-violent strategy: sorely (fault finding gets nothing for nobody) our own lifestyles are where we are beginning and we invite you, too, to think, perceive, fast."
