Obsession, the 1976 Brian De Palma horror mystery is-she-or-isn't-she thriller ("Story by Brian de Palma & Paul Schrader"; about a man whose life is shattered when his wife and daughter are killed during a kidnapping, but then ten years later, he meets a woman who is an exact duplicate of his wife) starring Cliff Robertson, Genevieve Bujold, John Lithgow (in his second movie role!), Sylvia Kuumba Williams, Wanda Blackman, and J. Patrick McNamara. Note that this movie has always been controversial, because while all agree it is an excellent movie, some see it as an homage to Alfred Hitchcock, while others call it a "rip-off". Certainly, there are major similarities between this movie and Vertigo, and De Palma hired Bernard Hermann to do the musical score (and Hermann did the classic Hitchcock score for Psycho, and worked on Vertigo!), but the two movies are far from the same, and each person must view them both and judge for themselves how they feel about them. It is likely that this controversy has kept this movie from being as highly acclaimed as many feel it should be!
Please note small separations at folds.
