Colorful illustrated map of “modern” 1939 Downtown District of Manhattan surrounded by early colonial scenes, including Christopher Columbus speaking with Native Americans, George Washington arriving at Murray's Wharf, and Statue of Liberty. Most likely, this map was created for the 1939 New York World's Fair.
Teacher, printmaker, sculptor and artist, Zaidenberg is best remembered for his seminal work Anyone Can Draw, published the same year that he designed this map. Throughout his career, he designed over 100 murals for hotels in Miami, New York and for the cruise ship Rotterdam.
