Linen backing is the industry standard of conservation. Canvas is stretchered and a sheet of acid free barrier paper is laid down. The poster is then pasted to the acid free paper using an acid free paste. This process is fully reversible and gives support to the poster. A border of linen is left around the poster and can be used by a framer to mount the poster so that nothing touches the poster itself. Backing is what we recommend for framing, and for any poster needing restoration.

Beautiful illustration of the Golden Gate Bridge at twilight, cars making their way to and from San Francisco and Marin County. Ships across Golden Gait, a narrow channel of water that connects San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean.

Stan Galli, born in San Francisco and a lifelong resident of Northern California, was a painter, prolific illustrator and printmaker. Although a member of the New York and California Society of Illustrators, and the designer of numerous wildlife conservation stamps for the United States Postal Service in the 1960s and 70s, he is best remembered for the series of posters he designed for United Airlines in the 1950s and 60s.
